Salem Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis 'Salem')

Salem Rosemary is a fragrant evergreen herb that adds year-round structure and dependable flavor to sunny gardens and containers. Its upright, woody growth makes it easy to use as a neat accent in beds or a productive plant near the kitchen. Once established in well-drained soil, it handles heat and dry spells well, keeping maintenance simple. Pale blue flowers in cool weather add seasonal interest while supporting early pollinators.

Distinctive Features

This rosemary selection is valued for a strong upright habit with dark green, needle-like foliage that stays attractive through the seasons in mild climates. The leaves are highly aromatic and hold their flavor well for cooking, grilling, and herb blends. Light blue flowers typically appear in winter to early spring in warmer regions, adding a soft color lift when many landscapes are quieter. Mature size is commonly about 2 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide, depending on pruning and growing conditions.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Full sun is best for dense growth, strong flavor, and the best flowering.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil is essential, and sandy or gravelly soils are ideal.
  • Water: Water regularly during establishment, then water deeply but infrequently once rooted.
  • USDA Zones: Zones 7 to 10.
  • Mature Size: About 2 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide.
  • Deer: Often deer resistant due to strongly aromatic foliage.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use in a large container as a focal point where the evergreen form and fragrance can anchor a sunny entry or patio.
  • Herb Gardens: Plant near the kitchen for easy harvesting and dependable structure in warm-season beds.
  • Low Hedges: Space in a line and prune lightly to form a fragrant, evergreen edging in mild climates.
  • Dry, Sunny Beds: Use in well-drained sites where heat and lower water use are part of the plan.
  • Edible Landscapes: Mix with ornamental plantings to add practical harvest value without sacrificing design.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Prune after flowering or as needed to shape, and avoid cutting back into old, leafless wood.
  • Harvesting: Snip young stems often to encourage branching and maintain a fuller, denser plant.
  • Watering: Let soil dry between waterings, since wet roots are the most common cause of decline.
  • Mulching: Keep mulch off the crown to improve airflow and reduce moisture-related issues.
  • Winter Protection: In colder areas of its range, plant in a protected spot with sharp drainage or grow in containers for easier shelter.

Why Choose Salem Rosemary?

  • Upright Structure: Strong vertical growth adds a clean, evergreen shape that fits into many designs.
  • Culinary Quality: Aromatic foliage is easy to harvest and brings bold flavor to everyday cooking.
  • Evergreen Presence: Provides year-round color and texture in mild climates.
  • Heat Tolerance: Performs reliably in sun once established in well-drained soil.
  • Flexible Use: Works well in containers, edible beds, and lightly clipped hedges for practical garden value.

Salem Rosemary is a smart choice when you want an evergreen herb that looks good, smells great, and earns its keep in the kitchen. Give it full sun and sharp drainage, then harvest and prune lightly to keep growth dense and productive. Whether planted as an accent, a small hedge, or a patio container feature, it brings lasting structure with everyday usefulness.

Great
This stuff is generally just great. My dermatologist recommended using at least I think she said a five or 8% and I feel like this is just like the perfect mixture with Trention to get your acne to go away, but I use it every time I shower and I feel like it really is a great defense against acne and oil

good
I’ve been using the CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Wash for a bit now, and it’s honestly just okay. It does help keep breakouts under control and feels gentle enough for daily use, but it can be a little drying at times. The texture is nice and creamy, and I like that it includes benzoyl peroxide and hyaluronic acid, so it’s effective without being too harsh. It’s not a miracle product, but it’s a solid option if you want a straightforward acne wash that does the job. Use 4% instead.

Definitely helps with acne
Cerave is a good brand for a lot of skin care products. I use their daily facial washes and now I bought this face and body acne wash. Mostly, I bought it because recently I had a zit on my forehead that was not going away with salicylic acid washes, so I decided to try benzoyl peroxide instead. With one use that zit dried up quick and disappeared in 2 days. I will say that I did let the product sit on my face for a minute before washing it off. I didn't notice any irritation on my skin or sensitivity. Benzoyl is underrated in my opinion. It's effective at getting rid of stubborn acne, more so than salicylic acid, but it can be drying so you must use moisturizer afterwards. The effectiveness also goes for body acne. Being a woman, I get those nasty painful hormonal acne break outs on my back sometimes and this helps a lot with getting rid of those. I like that it's slightly cheaper than Panoxyl and you don't need a large amount for it to work.

Great product!
I love this product!! It is easy to apply and absorbs well. It can be used by itself, or you can apply makeup over it. I feel that it has been effective in minimizing the puffiness below my eyes. I love that it goes on with a cool feeling. I have been looking for something comparable to the Eye Rever Upper I used to use from Bare Minerals and I think I finally found it!! The only con that I have is the cost of the product. I feel it could be less.
